The American Cultural Resources Association (ACRA) has selected the Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery Revitalization Project as the recipient of its prestigious 2010 Industry Award for demonstrating a commitment to "going above and beyond" to preserve the historical and cultural resources of the project site consistent with the community, officials of the Baltimore-based organization just announced.

A new and long-anticipated beginning for Greenwood Estate at Rush Farm on the grounds of the historic Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery is marked at the official April 30 groundbreaking at the cemetery.

Philadelphia-based Hanson General Contracting, Inc., is directing the total structural restoration of the Greenwood Estate at Rush Farm, on the grounds of historic Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery (930 Adams Avenue), and the official project groundbreaking is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, April 30, organizers announced today.

Using their knowledge of local history- and vivid imaginations - a roomful of passionate stakeholders recently expressed their ideas for the future use of what most have come to refer to as "The Benjamin Rush House" located on the grounds of the Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery.

Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery will host a community discussion on the potential use of the historic house. As you know, the house has been uninhabitable for many years however; under new ownership the cemetery has plans to renovate and restore the house.

It is now official. The two community associations - Northwood Civic and Northwood Concerned Citizens - and their neighbor, Cancer Treatment Centers of America Eastern Regional Medical Center, have agreed to a wide-ranging, comprehensive Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) that includes local employment, small business, and new home-buyer incentives, as well as significant support for the revitalization of the historic Knights of Pythias Greenwood Cemetery property that adjoins the hospital grounds.

The Friends of Greenwood Cemetery sponsored a Spring Clean-up on April 4, 2009 staffed by volunteers dedicated to the preservation of the cemetery grounds, records and the Rush House.

The historic, 44-acre Greenwood property along Adams Avenue near Castor Avenue in Northwood is under new management by a group committed to revitalizing the site, including the historically significant but long neglected country house of Dr. Benjamin Rush, a Founding Father, and the surrounding cemetery grounds, it was announced today.
